It was 1980 something, and while playing with my action figures, my Abba (father) tells me to come into the living room and watch a movie with him. A science fiction fan, he puts on the original Terminator. At ten years old this was to be the inspiration for both my bodybuilding career and my love of film and special effects makeup.
My Eima (mom) picked up on my artistic skills and enrolled me in sculpting and pottery classes. Having a family full of artists, I was in the right hands.
Years later, influenced by a deep artistic and cultural background, I would go to a makeup trade show in Pasadena where I met David. We remain close, and still see each other as often as possible. One day in passing he mentioned that they have art models come to Lucas Film for the animators, and that in my desire for extra money to give it a shot. I brushed it off for a few years, but eventually gave it a try.
The day had finally arrived, all the calls and emails had finally paid off and I booked my first modeling gig. All packed and ready to go; I felt a sudden pain in my chest and numbness in my left arm…heart attack? I rushed downstairs and drank some milk, nothing… I thought “this is it”…but a call on the phone , her soothing voice assured me it was just a panic attack. Sure enough as the words left her lips, the pain subsided.
Since then the thought of taking my clothes off does not bother me. Don’t get me wrong, I still get anxious and nervous, but more because I want to challenge the instructor and class, to push their skills and limits.
From the fine arts to the gaming world with Anatomy Tools, Blizzard, Watts Atelier, Laguna College of Art and Design (just to name a few ) and photo shoots that take me beneath the water, it’s an adventure with growth and dedicated partnership.
Telling a story of my character is why I do it. I am all the action heroes I looked up to as a child, the science fiction fantasies; the classic Greek and Roman statues.
The art, anatomy, character, and photography modeling is but a piece of me, a culmination of my experiences. I am always looking to the next level, the next step in the evolution.
